CoGo Now Offering Free Rides for Healthcare Workers

Lyft is now offering free rides on CoGo bikes for healthcare workers. The company, which has operated the local bike share system since late 2018, made the announcement yesterday.

“Lyft is committed to increasing transportation access to those who need it most,” said Caroline Samponaro, Head of Micromobility Policy at Lyft, in a statement. “As part of our LyftUp efforts nationwide, this program will provide free 30-minute CoGo rides to Columbus residents working on the frontlines against COVID-19. We are all grateful to them and appreciate the efforts of our city government partners in ensuring bikeshare remains a reliable option for Columbus residents, especially for those making essential trips during this unprecedented time.”

Healthcare employers looking to enroll staff in the program, as well as employees hoping to sign up, can email [email protected] for more information.

The enrollment window will remain open until June 15, with the program set to run through the end of June, although the press announcement stated that, “after the initial period, Lyft will work with its partners to determine ridership needs and the best ways to support the program further.”

CoGo has continued to operate over the last two months, instituting a stepped-up cleaning regimen. Bird, Lime and Spin all pulled their scooters off the streets of Columbus in mid-March, but Lime brought them back in late April, with Spin following suit about a week later. Both companies are offering free-ride programs for healthcare workers.
